Attitudes to Biotechnology: Stem CellsThe Second BBVA Foundation International Study on Attitudes to Biotechnology undertakes an in-depth comparative analysis of the attitudes of citizens in 12 European countries plus the United States, Japan and Israel towards research with embryos for the purpose of obtaining stem cells. Among the questions analyzed are how far public opinion is informed about stem cells, expectations and reservations regarding research with embryonic stem cells and differences in support for such research depending on the origin of the embryos used. Collaborating in the cancer research program of IRB-MetLabThe BBVA Foundation has concluded an agreement to promote the cancer research program of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine – MetLab, in Barcelona. The program headed by the center’s adjunct director, Joan Massagué (also chairman of the Cancer Biology and Genetics Program at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York), has identified the genetic activity governing metastasis in certain types of tumors.
