DESCRIPTION
One point of controversy in the scientific debate has been the attempt to reduce all component spheres of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental) into a single measurement unit, and whether to make use of monetary or physical indices.
As this is a multidimensional concept whose analysis draws on a variety of indicators, this research project will seek to develop a multicriterial analysis framework capable of measuring the progress towards sustainable development of Spain’s autonomous communities.
The format proposed is a study of three Spanish cases, with the dual aim of identifying the best measurement indicators of regional progress toward sustainable development, and of determining the feasibility of inter-region comparisons, since indicators may differ from one cultural and geographic context to another.
