DESCRIPTION
The present research project sets out to explore the relations between competition and innovation within the framework of the New Economy, adopting a dual theoretical and empirical perspective. The theoretical side will consist of an analysis of the complementarity of different inputs and outputs, with special regard to R&D inputs, which appear to characterise technological change in the New Economy, and companies’ ability to appropriate the benefits of their innovations. The empirical study will involve a series of tests to verify the real relationship between competition and innovation, focusing on how innovation affects competitive conditions (on both productivity and cost sides) and the structure of the market itself.
