Stem cell therapy represents a promising approach for cardiovascular disease. Pluripotential stem cells (MPC) delivered successfully to the heart can replace and/or repair the damaged myocardium (cardiomyoplasty), but the limiting steps for implementation of this therapeutic strategy are the development of viable sources of autologous stem cells and of methods to foster their delivery and implantation in the heart via the bloodstream.
