The project to be joined by Prof. Cooper, an expert in epidemiology and molecular genetics, is based at the Research Foundation of the Hospital Clínico de Valencia. Its goal is to identify the genetic markers of disturbances in the mechanisms controlling blood pressure and of deterioration in renal function among hypertensive patients.

DESCRIPTION

The study of these markers may enable: a) the early detection of those prone to hypertension, allowing time for the employment of preventive methods; and b) the early detection of hypertensive patients at risk of developing renal disease, in order to slow its progress and generally optimize treatment.
