DESCRIPTION
This project sets out to characterize the genetic profile of proliferating neovessels in the angiogenic diseases associated with a high mortality in western countries, such that the genes identified may translate to being protein markers of disease status, and form part of a future microarray panel to predict patients at risk of thrombosis or to monitor treatment outcome and follow-up.
This study, it is hoped, will yield significant advances toward identifying the mechanisms responsible for the initiation and maintenance of neovascularization in critical processes of the disease, and toward obtaining a blueprint for endothelial cell signaling for use as a genetic microarray applicable in clinical diagnosis and experimental research.
