DESCRIPTION
This project sets itself various objectives. Firstly, to estimate the present and future dimension of the phenomenon based on demographic, governmental and educational databases, double checking the aggregate results of some and directly re-exploiting others.
Secondly, to examine what schools are doing in practice by looking at their educational programmes, internal rules and other documents. This will be supplemented by an in-depth study of a small cross section of centres factoring habitat, ownership, social mix and other criteria.
Thirdly, to get to know the lived experience of immigrant children through interviews, focus groups, monitoring of individual cases and analysis of relational networks, likewise in different types of schools and considering different immigrant groups. The idea is to look below the surface of the figures and address the complexities of social interaction and subjective feelings.
