DESCRIPTION
In telecommunications, electricity, financial services and oil and gas, Spanish companies have attained leadership positions while bringing about profound and lasting changes in the delivery of these services, their quality and their price. The rapid and massive deployment of Spanish firms has obliged competitors (local and of other nationalities) to change their strategies, tested the powers of Latin American regulators and, above all, altered the perceptions of local consumers. One decade after the first investments seems a good time to take rigorous stock of the process and its implications. The present project will consist of a series of interviews with the main actors (top executives of parent companies in Spain and of their biggest Latin American subsidiaries, leading competitors in significant markets, political and economic authorities in Spain and Latin America, business and trade union organisations, consumer associations, etc.). This will be followed up by a restricted workshop to discuss preliminary results with various agents involved.
