DESCRIPTION
The impacts and consequences of immigration processes for receiving country labour markets are difficult to determine with exactitude. This is because they touch on such varied matters as labour supply and demand, the operation of the market (wage formation and mobility of labour) and its outcomes (supply shortages in some segments and/or unemployment.)
This project will explore the main consequences for Spain’s labour market of current immigration flows. Starting from the generation of a database for the study of the immigrant population (re-weighting of the Labour Force Survey), the following points will be subject to analysis:
(i) measurement of the immigrant population resident in Spain;
(ii) basic personal and employment characteristics of the immigrant population;
(iii) implications for the Spanish labour market: mobility of labour, unemployment, integration/segmentation;
(iv) recommendations for employment policy.
