This project looks at immigration policies in Spain touching on questions of legitimacy, political and legal justification and social legitimation. It focuses on both the possibilities of recognising political participation rights (the right to vote) and other forms of civic participation.

DESCRIPTION

An analysis will be conducted on the qualifying conditions for such rights at local, regional and national level, and changes proposed as necessary. Consideration will also go to the creation of instruments and networks which encourage active, responsible integration in terms of complying with civic duties and guaranteeing rights for all.

This research takes its place among the body of proposals which seek to give entity to ‘European citizenship’ and ‘active citizenship’. Their ultimate aim is the design of programmes and channels to strengthen the social, political, institutional and civic involvement of immigrants.
