DESCRIPTION
The first phase of the International Human Proteome Organization project comprises the development and validation of techniques for separating and identifying proteins, the conduct of pilot studies and the collection of samples. The CIC-BIOGUNE research centre, the premier Spanish node of the international HUPO project, has created a consortium of partners from the Spanish healthcare sector to work with it to its objectives. CIC-BIOGUNE’s participation in HUPO involves developing its own project but at the same time coordinating it with HUPO. The specific project of the node is to identify and characterise new plasma and liver proteins which can lead to the identification of proteins acting as diagnostic markers for human hepatic diseases of social and clinical significance. The method used will be to analyse differences in the protein profiles of liver and plasma samples taken from healthy subjects and individuals suffering these pathologies.
