DESCRIPTION
This research project sets out to quantify the disease burden in Spain associated to depression and schizophrenia, and to estimate the cost-effectiveness at population level of various interventions used in the management of these two pathologies. It will also evaluate the contribution of different therapeutic strategies to reducing the current burden in their respect. The burden of both pathologies will be quantified by calculating the disability-adjusted life years of the Spanish population in 2000, as of available demographic and mortality data and epidemiological estimates drawing on European Union studies. The impact of therapeutic interventions on the Spanish population will be assessed using population model analysis. Results concerning interventions will be presented in the form of population-level cost and effectiveness, which will then be used to obtain the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER).
