Transatlantic Trends is an annual public opinion survey measuring the attitudes of Americans and Europeans toward world affairs and transatlantic relations. Transatlantic Trends is a project of the German Marshall Fund in partnership with the BBVA Foundation and other European foundations.

DESCRIPTION

This year’s survey examines the opinions of citizens on both sides of the Atlantic on a wide range of topics, among them:

• Obama’s presidency and transatlantic relations
• Attitudes toward the economic crisis and the role of the European Union
• Transatlantic priorities and challenges:

– Perspectives on Afghanistan and Iran
– Developments in the Middle East and North Africa. Intervention in Libya
– Opinions about Asia in general and China in particular

• Turkey and the West: European Union membership and Turkish attitudes toward the West

TNS Opinion gathered the survey data during the month of June in the United States, Turkey and twelve European countries: Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Bulgaria and Romania. A total of 1,000 interviews were conducted in each country.
