DESCRIPTION
Transatlantic Trends: Immigration is the second edition of an annual public opinion survey sounding North Americans and Europeans on their views toward immigration. TTI is a project of the German Marshall Fund and a broad group of European foundations. This is the first time that Spain has taken part.
This year’s survey analyzes the opinions of citizens on both sides of the Atlantic on a wide range of topics, among them:
– Immigration as a problem or an opportunity
– Effect of political leanings on attitudes to immigration
– Estimation of immigrant numbers
– Attitudes and degree of concern concerning legal and illegal immigration
– Illegal immigration: measures to reduce it, and the option of legalization
– Legal immigration: entry requirements, preferences for permanent or temporary labor migration programs
– Government handling of immigration policy
TNS Opinion gathered the survey data during the month of September 2009 in the United States, Canada and six European countries: France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. A total of 1,000 interviews were conducted in each country.
