This research has been carried out by the BBV Foundation and the Valencian Institute for Economic Research (IVIE). It demonstrates that starting in the late 1950s Aragon achieved a sustained growth in output that has improved the living standards of its population. Per capital output is today 85% of the European average, although in the cases of the provinces of Huesca and Teruel this has been more the result of a reduction in population, to the gain of Zaragoza, than to an increase in production in real terms. Aragon exports a significant proportion of its output, although most comes from specific sectors such as the automotive. The manufacture of automotive materials is the driver of the region’s economy.
