Juan Rodés was a friendly, modest, straightforward person, as well as a magnificent doctor whose calling was medicine and science. Much loved by his patients, Dr. Rodés was also a genuine visionary and leader. He overhauled the structure of Hospital Clínic in Barcelona and set up its Hepatology Department, organized and strengthened its biomedical research capacity, established Fundación Clínic and IDIBAPS, and helped build the repute of the University of Barcelona Medical School. Rodés was also a “trusted advisor” to countless public and private institutions. This book brings together 50 testimonials to his life and work – some more institutional and others more personal in nature.
For all of us who had the honor and privilege of knowing and working with Juan Rodés, this is no more than a simple and deserved tribute. He enjoyed life in all its facets, was respected while he lived, and will be remembered always with affection and admiration.
