Los límites de la competencia en la banca española

Social Sciences > Economics > Finance

The context of European integration, which fosters greater competitiveness, and the price wars occurring from time to time between banks, have led to most experts in the sector considering that Spain has in recent years been the stage of increased competition between financial institutions. This study suggests how far this level of competition in our banking market extends. It does so by analyzing three basic issues: the important changes in the banking business; the fact that competition in any particular segment of banking activity has not had a significant effect on the income statements or, in banks that are traded on the stock market, on their capitalization; and finally, the fact that the changes in the sector have affected banks and savings banks differently.
