Panacea or Pandoras Box? / ¿Panacea o caja de Pandora?

Jack David Dunitz

Social Sciences > Sociology

The author’s baseline hypothesis is that today the modern outlook is unfavorable to scientific research and is sometimes completely opposed to it. For example, problems such as pollution, acid rain, atmospheric pollution and oil spills are all blamed on chemical research; though the causes should be looked for in industrial, economic, social and political factors. This book transcribes the speech given by Professor J.D. Dunitz on the difficulties faced by science in its relations with society; among them he mentions boredom and the limited attention given to education. As a solution to the lack of conviction among people a certain level of willingness, the author proposes an ethic based on reason.
