Viaje al Oeste
This tablet application invites you to follow in the footsteps of the artists who opened up the American West and helped forge the legend of the Wild West.
It offers a novel and enjoyable way to get to know the Museum’s collection of 19th century North American paintings, as well as the temporary exhibition The Illusion of the American Frontier.
Journey to the West is an interactive voyage in the company of adventure-loving artists like George Catlin, Henry Lewis, Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Cole, Karl Bodmer and Frederic Remington, along with contemporary artist Miguel Ángel Blanco. The accompanying historical accounts, maps and artistic and historical commentaries will help you explore the lives of these artists and the meaning of their works, depicting the great American landscapes – the Mississippi, the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains – and the way of life of native American tribes.
The application is the result of a collaboration between the BBVA Foundation and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. The Program of Applications, Digital Publications and Educational Knowledge is a vehicle for the development of multimedia publications that offer the public new experiences, virtual and live, in connection with works and artists from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum collections, along with a range of educational features and information and communication channels between the museum and its visitors.
This App has been available at the different market places until December 2019.
Further information on the publications and projects developed in the frame of this collaboration is available here.
