Awarded the 18th BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Climate Change and Environmental Sciences, Carl Wunsch explains his contributions to the study of ocean circulation and its role in understanding climate change. He describes how the development of new technologies, such as satellite measurements and autonomous systems, has made it possible to observe the ocean on a global scale and in real time, improving the analysis of its interaction with the atmosphere. He also highlights the importance of observation programs for understanding climate evolution and warns about the risks associated with rising CO₂ levels, as well as the essential role of international cooperation in addressing climate challenges.

The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Climate Change and Environmental Sciences was awarded in its 18th edition to Carl Wunsch for his fundamental contributions to research that has revealed the impact of global warming on oceans across the planet.
