Marvin Minsky Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, where he co-founded the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory with John McCarthy. Widely recognized as one of the fathers of the discipline, he made pioneering contributions in neural networks, robotics, cognitive science, and frame theory, and was awarded the Turing Award in 1969.

Awarded the 6th BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Information and Communication Technologies, Marvin Minsky explains how the field of Artificial Intelligence emerged from its early days at MIT, his theory of the Society of Mind, and how research on thinking machines has fluctuated between inflated expectations and real challenges. Minsky reflects on the difference between imitating the human brain and building intelligent systems, emphasizing that understanding intelligence is a collective effort of multiple agents rather than the product of a single machine.

The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Laureate in the Information and Communication Technologies category goes in this sixth edition to American Marvin L. Minsky, regarded as a founding father of the artificial intelligence field, and also the author of key theoretical and practical contributions in mathematics, cognitive science, robotics and philosophy.
