“Reasons for hope in the face of the global environmental crisis”

Lecture by Rhett Butler, director of Mongabay, delivered at the ceremony of the 5th Biophilia Award for Environmental Communication on February 19, 2024.

In this lecture, Rhett Butler presents an optimistic and evidence-based perspective on the possibilities for addressing the most pressing environmental challenges. He argues that, despite the severity of issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem degradation, there is a growing body of scientific advances, community actions, and policy responses that deserve recognition as examples of real impact. Throughout his talk, he emphasizes the importance of solutions journalism in connecting research, local communities, and global decision-making, and underscores that telling stories grounded in facts and human experience can inspire action, build partnerships, and expand the reach of initiatives that are already generating positive change in the world.
